Problem Description
After downloading ScriptureDirect from the Internet you try to run the installer and get an error message informing you that an error occurred. The exact error message will differ between operating systems and could be something like the following:
-
Application Error: The application failed to initialize properly...
-
Invalid package size! ...
-
Unable to unarchive "ScriptureDirect ...
Reason
This problem is caused by an incomplete or truncated file download. It sometimes happens even though the web browser reports that the download have completed successfully. When you then try to run the file you get a message reporting that the file is invalid or corrupt.
This problem is mostly experienced by Windows users using Internet Explorer.
Solution
-
Start by clearing your browser's temporary internet files. For Internet Explorer open the Tools menu, click Delete Browsing History and click Delete files
-
Download the program again
-
When asked to save or run, choose to save the file. If possible save the file to the same folder as the previous attempt and choose to replace the previous file
-
After the download has completed use Windows Explorer to browse to the file location
-
Check the file size. The file size may differ depending on which version of ScriptureDirect you are downloading but it should at least be more than 45Mb
-
If the file size is less or you still receive the message you could try these steps again and make sure you save over the previous file.
-
If it is still not working you could try one of the following:
-
-
Try using a third party download manager. It increases your change of success significantly and has the added benefits of increasing your download speed and allows the resuming of broken downloads (this is especially helpful for people trying to download large file over slow or unreliable connections). A good open source one is Free Download Manager
-
Empty the browser's cache. For Safari users click the Safari menu item and choose Empty Cache...
